For the planning and organization of the study, a large number of universities and research institutions work together in a close network comprised of around 200 researchers from all over Germany. The network is coordinated at the in Bamberg. Professor Dr Cordula Artelt has been director of the LIfBi and head of the NEPS study since February 2019.
Previously, Professor Dr Sandra Buchholz and Professor Dr Sabine Weinert were the representative directors of the LIfBi and thus also of the NEPS study. From August 2012 to March 2017, Professor Dr Hans-Günther Roßbach was project manager. His predecessor was Professor Dr Dr Hans-Peter Blossfeld from January 2009 to July 2012.
The study was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research from 2009 to 2013. Since January 2014, the NEPS study has been implemented with joint funding from federal and state government.
The IEA’s contribution consists of sampling, field operations, data coding, and data capturing and processing at the preschool and school stages of the study.
