March 3 this year is China's 17th "Earl's Day." The theme of this national "Early Day" propaganda and education activity is: "Concern about children's hearing health".

Hearing tests for infants and young children should not be ignored

It is often said that the ears are clear, and the ear is an important organ for the baby to receive outside information. Babies with normal hearing usually learn language in 4-11 months, which is an important stage sign of language development. If your baby doesn't pronounce or talk at this time, pay attention to hearing problems.
Babies with poor hearing can cry and laugh normally, and can also hear the sound of closing the door, thunder or firecrackers. Parents cannot judge whether the baby's hearing is normal based on these phenomena. Even if the baby passes the hearing screening after birth, it will be affected by various adverse factors in the developmental process of the day after tomorrow, such as a cold and hearing damage caused by drugs. Therefore, be sure to take your baby for a regular routine hearing test.
Early detection and early intervention of babies' hearing can make children with hearing loss approach and reach the speech development level of children of the same age to the maximum extent. Parents need to pay attention to newborn hearing screening when the newborn baby is discharged.

Brief Introduction of Tongchuan Newborn Hearing Screening Project

Newborn hearing screening is to improve the quality of the population, protect children's physical and mental health, early detection, early diagnosis and early intervention of children's hearing impairment, and reduce the impact of hearing impairment on children's language development and other neuropsychiatric development.
Screening targets: every live birth in Tongchuan, including migrants.
Screening institutions: This Municipality has obtained the "Licensing License for Medical Institutions" and "Licensing License for Technical Services for Maternal and Infant Health Care", and has obstetric or pediatric health care institutions.
Screening: Newborns 48 hours after birth.
Screening method: It is an objective, rapid, and non-invasive examination performed by electrophysiological techniques such as otoacoustic emission, automatic auditory brainstem response, and acoustic impedance in the state of natural sleep or quietness after birth. It usually takes only 5-10 minutes to complete the test.
Significance of screening: If hearing loss cannot be detected in a timely manner, it will not only affect children (speech and cognitive development, education, employment, marriage, parenting) and the family (communication barriers, psychological, economic burdens), but also become a heavy burden on society. Affect social and economic development. The majority of infants and young children who are clearly diagnosed with permanent hearing loss can be returned to the mainstream society by conducting scientific intervention and rehabilitation training within 6 months of birth.
